Throughout time, birds have been guardians of ecosystems and spiritual symbols in many ancestral cultures. Their presence in myths, rituals, and traditional knowledge reflects the deep connection between nature and indigenous communities. In this edition of the Salento BirdFair – Ancestral Essence, the academic component will focus on exploring how birds have influenced the worldview of ancestral peoples and how this sacred relationship can strengthen conservation efforts today.

Through conferences and dialogue spaces, we will explore the deep connection between birds and ancestral traditions, highlighting their role as sacred messengers in indigenous worldviews, their influence on the music and oral narratives of native peoples, and the value of traditional knowledge in ecosystem conservation. These practices demonstrate how ancestral wisdom can strengthen the relationship between communities, birds, and their territories.
